A Nexus in Time

History does not end — it accumulates. Every crisis on this year’s agendas carries the fingerprints of a decision made decades before it.

DCMUN 2026 asks its delegates to stand at the intersection of eras: to read the past closely enough to understand the present, and to legislate for a future that will inherit whatever is decided in these rooms. Seven committees, seven points along one continuum.

“The farther backward you can look, the farther forward you are likely to see.”

— Winston Churchill

Esteemed delegates and faculty advisors,

I firmly believe that Churchill’s statement is engraved with practicality rather than mere philosophy. It is baffling how the past, with all its perils, can possibly serve as the blueprint for a future that demands progress. For instance, internationalism today has reached pinnacles that once seemed implausible. From the fractured history of the 20th century to current standards of diplomacy, common goals, and joint achievement; global connections have undoubtedly evolved.

But how sustainable has the evolution of these connections been? You see, this moment witnesses West Asia and its aftermath, economic coercion expanding, non-state actors subverting, and tactical finesse substituting a basic moral compass. The spillover of this erratic geopolitics is the struggle that every common man of the global community faces today. For what remains unanswered requires an analysis of the past to ensure an effective international order in the future.

With this notion, we present to you ‘Nexus Temporis: Shaping Tomorrow by Reflecting on Yesterday’. This year, we carry forward the 12-year-old legacy of the Daly College Model United Nations Conference. Our theme not only adds pragmatism to perspective but initiates an idea of change that shall endure.

We posit agendas that question history, ranging from intervention in Cold War Latin America, to defining the legal standards of state accountability, to assessing how Indian political heritage would view the implementation of a Uniform Civil Code. At the same time, other agendas seek to sketch a vision of equilibrium in an increasingly uncertain world by advocating greater inclusivity in international cricket, confronting the biosecurity and ethical dilemmas posed by AI in medicine, examining the growing weaponisation of trade, and shedding light on the plight of migrants navigating an ever-unstable global landscape. Hence, the depth we offer is deliberate, and it dares you to take the first step, it dares you to simply begin.

It is with great honour that the Daly College campus awaits your presence. We are hopeful that you will fill our halls with meaningful deliberation, heartfelt memories, and an impact that stays. So think widely, research deeply, debate fiercely, and listen actively. Remember that what is past is prologue, and the future awaits its story.

Until August!

Best wishes,
